Susie Cooper/Grays/Crown Devon

Susie Cooper started her early career as a ceramic designer in 1922 when she joined A E Gray & Co, Staffordshire.  In 1929 she started up her own company, moving to Crown  Works in 1931.  Whilst she is famous for shapes such as Kestrel in the 1930s. it is some of the earlier geometric designs eg. cubist undertaken at Grays that have become some of the most sought after.  Her work from the 1940s to 1950s are much more subtle both in design and style. 
In the post Susie Cooper period Grays produced designs that clearly were influenced by her though not attributed to Susie Cooper.

Crown Devon produced similar designs to Grays Pottery as was popular in the post-war Deco period, including vibrant jugs and vases.

Lovely floral trio by Susie Cooper at Grays Pottery.  The cup is 7 cms in height, the saucer 14 cms in diameter and the plate is 16 cms in diameter.  The trio does have a few minor scuffs but otherwise in very good condition.Grays Pottery galleon backstamp.
