Susie Cooper/Grays

Susie Cooper started her early career as a ceramic designer in 1922 when she joined A E Gray & Co, Staffordshire.  In 1929 she started up her own company, moving to Crown  Works in 1931.  Whilst she is famous for shapes such as Kestrel in the 1930s. it is some of the earlier geometric designs eg. cubist undertaken at Grays that have become some of the most sought after.  Her work from the 1940s to 1950s are much more subtle both in design and style. 
 
In the post Susie Cooper period Grays produced designs that clearly were influenced by her though not attributed to Susie Cooper.

Beautiful Paris jug by Susie Cooper for Grays in Moon & Mountains design c1929.  Size of jug is 11 cms in height and 14 cms spout to handle.  The jug is in excellent condition with no damage and the design is clear and bright.  Backstamp is Grays galleon and design no 7960.

Beautiful coffee duo by Susie Cooper for Grays in thickly painted floral design.  Size of cup is 6 cms in height and saucer 11 cms in diameter.  The duo is in excellent condition and the design is clear and bright.  Backstamp is Grays liner, designed by Susie Cooper.

Grays Dish in lovely pastel Deco design c1930s. Size of dish is 25 cms by 14.5 cms.  The dish is in excellent condition with no damage. There is only minor clean crazing to plate back only. Grays galleon backstamp and Grays Pottery, Stoke on Trent.
